Cute little mini planter (with tray), for growing miniature house plants.

This is part of our Blue Pottery collection an age old craft of Jaipur, India that gets its name from the distinctive persian blue colour used to dye the ceramic. The art of making blue glaze pottery came to Rajasthan via Kashmir, their entry point to India.

Interestingly this one of a kind art form originated as a result of a Kite flying session when Sawai Ram Singh II consistently lost a kite battle to two potters who then told him they had coated their strings with the same blue & green glass that they used for their pots. Sawai Ram Singh II was so impressed that he invited the brothers to stay in Jaipur and teach this unique form of glazed pottery to Jaipurs craftsmen whose direct descendants are creating these magnificent products today!

The art uses a mix of powdered stone and glass borax gum & water to produce what is known as Egyptian paste which is then glazed and low fired which is what gives it its color and finally decorated with animal bird and floral motifs. Being fired at low temperature, it is fragile and easily chipped. Blue Pottery is Turko- Persian in origin, but today is widely known as one of the distinctive craft of Jaipur.
