Vastu Purush - the Lord of the House! Vastushastra based home energies!

Vaastu Purusha is a foundational concept in Vaastu Shastra, the ancient Indian science of architecture and design. It is believed to be the energy that inhabits a site or a building and governs its overall harmony, balance, and well-being. The concept of Vaastu Purusha is deeply rooted in Indian philosophy, playing a central role in shaping the layout and orientation of structures to align with cosmic energies and natural elements.

The term "Vaastu Purusha" can be broken down into two components: "Vaastu," which refers to the dwelling or habitat, and "Purusha," which translates to energy, spirit, or essence. Together, Vaastu Purusha embodies the divine spirit residing within the earth, representing the universal life force that sustains all creation.

According to Matsya Purana, in a war between Lord Shiva & Andhakasura, a few drops of sweat from both fell on the ground, and a very strong and great being was born, who soon covered the whole earth. The gods sought help from Lord Brahma, the creator, who devised a plan to subdue it. With the assistance of other gods, Lord Brahma immobilized the being by pressing him face-down onto the ground, thus forming the grid-like structure that delineates the directions and sectors of space.

The immobilized being transformed into the Vaastu Purusha, with his head in the northeast and his feet in the southwest. This cosmic being is depicted lying prone, covering the entire plot of land or building site, with his various body parts assigned to specific directions and sectors. Each part of Vaastu Purusha's body corresponds to different aspects of human life and the physical environment, and its placement influences the design and construction of buildings.

In traditional Vaastu Shastra texts and practices, architects and builders pay careful attention to the orientation and alignment of structures with respect to Vaastu Purusha's body. The aim is to harness positive energies and minimize negative influences, promoting health, prosperity, and overall well-being for the occupants.

For example, the northeast quadrant of Vaastu Purusha's body is associated with knowledge, wisdom, and prosperity. Therefore, this area is considered auspicious for locating entrances, prayer rooms, and study areas within a building. On the other hand, the southwest quadrant, which corresponds to the feet of Vaastu Purusha, is associated with stability, strength, and security, making it suitable for constructing heavy structures like bedrooms or storage areas.

Furthermore, the rituals and ceremonies performed during the groundbreaking and construction phases often involve propitiating Vaastu Purusha to seek his blessings and ensure harmony between the built environment and the cosmic energies.
