The Darjeeling Himalayan Railway, often referred to as the "Toy Train," is a narrow-gauge railway that runs through the picturesque Darjeeling hills. It is known for its unique steam locomotives and stunning scenic routes.

The Darjeeling Himalayan Railway was built during the late 19th century, primarily to connect the hill station of Darjeeling with the plains of West Bengal. The construction began in the 1870s and the railway line was opened in stages, with the full line reaching Darjeeling in 1881.

In 1999, the Darjeeling Himalayan Railway was designated as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, recognizing its historical and cultural significance. It is one of the few remaining operational railways of its kind. The most iconic aspect of the Darjeeling Himalayan Railway is its use of vintage British-built steam locomotives. The railway still operates a fleet of these charming, century-old steam engines, which are maintained with great care.
