ABOUT THE WESTERN GHATS

The Western Ghats aka Sahyadri is a mountain range parallel to the western coast of the Indian Peninsula. It is a UNESCO World Heritage site and is one of the eight hotspots of biological diversity in the world. They influence Indian monsoon weather patterns by intercepting the rain-laden monsoon winds that sweep in from the south-west during late summer.

Mullayanagiri  is the highest peak in Karnataka. Mullayyanagiri is located in the Chandra Dhrona Hill Ranges of the Western Ghats of Chikkamagaluru Taluk. The summit of Mullayanagiri has a small temple and houses a police radio relay station. Seethalayyanagiri is a prominent peak which is adjacent.
