The 0 Bidri Clock is inspired by this greatest contribution of Indians to world -Zero and Ujjain’s (a city in Madhya Pradesh) location which is pinpointed on the Tropic of Cancer. The Tropic of Cancer is significant because, as the earth revolves around the sun, this latitude marks the northernmost position at which the sun can be seen directly overhead. The city is geographically situated at the precise spot where the zero meridian of longitude and the Tropic of Cancer intersect. This is why it was considered the navel of the earth, and is called the “Greenwich of India” or World’s Point Zero.

This product is rendered by artisans of the Bidri Metalcraft, craft that has developed in the 14th century C.E. Made by artisans from Bidar in Karnataka. The metal used is a blackened alloy of zinc and copper inlaid with thin sheets of pure silver.

Tropic of Cancer!

Such a storied product. Actually learnt from just the product description. And gifted it to my dad. He knew the story, and was glad somebody made a product out of it. Ujjain and it's association with the Tropic of Cancer, Indian Maths and the erstwhile Prime Meridian has been immortalised
