A food steamer or steam cooker is a small kitchen appliance used to cook or prepare various foods with steam heat by means of holding the food in a sealed vessel that limits the escape of air or liquids. Momo steamers have been used for centuries. The ancient North-Eastern Indians used natural handmade steamers to cook food. Due to their health aspect (cooking without any oil), food steamers are used extensively in health oriented diets. Food steamers release less heat to the kitchen environment, therefore helping keep the kitchen cool during hot summers. This bamboo steamer basket set are round steamers made from bamboo used in the North-Eastern Indian cuisine. They can be stacked on top of each other so that the steam can cook many different servings simultaneously. Our bamboo steamer is handmade by the North-Eastern artisans. Easy to clean and maintain. • Bamboo steaming enhances natural flavors and retains essential vitamins and nutrients, usually lost in conventional methods.
  • Ideal for steaming vegetables, dumplings, gyoza, rice, eggs, pork buns, tamales, dim sum, fish, lobster tails, crab legs, beef, chicken and much more!
  • Includes two tiers that neatly stack with one lid, allowing you to cook the meat separate from the vegetables and rice. Great for low fat meal preparation; prepare food without adding unhealthy oils and fats!
  • Fits most kitchen pots, woks and pans you already have in your kitchen!

Care Instruction:

To clean your bamboo steamer, wash with a sponge and mild dish soap, and immediately rinse thoroughly. Let the steamer air dry for at least 2 days before storing to prevent any mildew. Do not put your bamboo steamer in the dishwasher. Do not soak it in water in the sink for more than 5 minutes.

How to Use:

A wide pan, or wok, is partially filled with about 2-inches of water and on medium heat, without the steamer on top or any sort of cover, allow the water to come to a simmer (do not let it come to a boil). Place the steamer, with the lid on top, over the pot. The simmering water will steam (lightly cook) the food in the bamboo steamer. The length of time it will take to steam will depend on the particular food.

It is important to watch the water level in the pan/wok (whether using a bamboo or metal steamer) so that it does not run dry (add more water as necessary).
